When it comes to being attractive on the international market, Arctic Center’s big advantage will be an abundance of natural snow. Guests will be able to ski downhill, uphill or straight ahead, not to mention go on whale watching safaris and chase the Northern Lights.
The summer will offer great opportunities too, such as Sami culture, cycling, fishing, boat trips, kayaking, mountain hiking – and the Midnight Sun.
Natural phenomena and picturesque nature are unique in our region.
Add nature-based activities and we can offer an unbeatable combination.
In addition, Tromsø and the surrounding area has first-class conditions for cross-country skiing on groomed trails and summits offering virtually endless opportunities for backcountry ski touring.
Tromsø has a unique opportunity to create a truly unique winter destination – where the guests will want to stay a long time!
Up until around 1919, Swedish Sami people used Finnheia as a summer camp and grazing area. Several relics of culture from this period have been discovered in the area. It will be possible to restore these to their original condition and develop authentic Sami experiences where the guests gain an insight into the Sami culture and way of life through film, Sami cuisine and trying on traditional Sami clothes. Arctic Center will arrange this as a separate foundation, which will develop such an attraction in cooperation with relevant specialists and Sami organisations.
Arctic Center will create strategic alliances in the tourism industry. The aim is to get Tromsø on the podium among winter sports destinations. The city will also be developed as an attractive summer destination. Activity providers and attractions in the region will be invited to participate in commercial cooperation in order to create a complete year-round tourism resort.
Few other cities on earth have such good natural conditions in this respect.
The presentation below shows the opportunities available to Tromsø and Arctic Center. There is something for everyone – year-round.
